Main characteristics

  • Two types: Core and Business-to-Business (B2B)*.
  • Both recurrent and one-off collections are possible.
  • The debtor needs to sign a SEPA mandate which will be provided by the Creditor.
  • The management and storage of these mandates is the responsibility of the Creditor.
  • Creditor ID is mandatory (a SEPA wide unique identifier of the Creditor). The creditor ID will be provided to the creditor when he receives the SEPA Direct Debit contract.
  • The format for initiating SDD is SWIFT XML – ISO 20022.
  • A pre-notification must be sent 14 days in advance of the collection by the Creditor to the Debtor unless otherwise agreed between the 2 parties.
  • Exceptions handling via R-messages
  • IBAN (International Bank Account Number) and BIC (Bank Identifier Code) are the only accepted account and bank identifiers for SEPA transactions.
  • The general rule is that Due date = Settlement date = Debit Date.

* the SEPA Direct Debit B2B product is an optional product that is not supported by all banks. As a result, not all banks are reachable for the SEPA Direct Debit B2B product.
